Chair of Azerbaijan geography and teaching methodology of geography
The chair within the structure of Geography faculty as the youngest chair was established in March 2007 and professor Vusat Amir oglu Efendiyev was elected as the head of the chair. He graduated from Moscow State University named after M.V.Lomonosov in 1977. In 1985, he defended his Ph.D. thesis, in 2004 he defended his doctor of geographical sciences thesis, and in 2007 he received professor scientific name.
Professor V.A.Afandiyev is a well-known scientist in the socio-economic and political geography field. The essential direction of his scientific studies is the development regularities of urbanization, adjustment, the anatomy of a complex urban environment, potential opportunities and forecasting. Professor V.A.Afandiyev was awarded the honorary title of Honored Scientist and with the badge “Advanced Education Worker” in 2009.
The chair was headed by professor Ismailov Chingiz Niyaz from March to July, in 2019. He studied at the Geology-Geography Faculty of Azerbaijan State University in 1974. He defended his Ph.D. thesis on “Geographical problems of oil and gas complex in Azerbaijan” in 1983. In 2004 he defended his doctor of geographical sciences thesis on “The essential problems of territorial organization of petrochemical complex in the Caspian region” and received the title of professor in 2010.
In July 2019, doc. Nagiyev Saleh Gasim was elected as the head of the chair of “Azerbaijan geography and teaching methodology of geography”. He graduated Azerbaijan Pedagogilcal Institute named after Lenin and postgraduate department of Leningrad State Pedagogical İnstitute named after Jersten, respectively in 1073 and 1980-1984.He defended his Ph.D. thesis on geography in Leningrad State University named after A.Jdanov in 1987, and then he entered Leningrad State Financial-Economical İnstitute named after N.Vozisenski 1989 and he graduated from Azerbaijan State Economical University in 1995. Doc. Nagiyev Saleh Gasim is the author of more than 140 scientific articles, more than 30 syllabuses, 2 monographs, textbook of “Human geography”, “Urban geography”, “Economical and social geography of Azerbaijan” which was written in Russian at first time in Azerbaijan and the program of “Human geography” in Azerbaijani and Russian.
Doc. Nagiyev Saleh Gasim is ready to defend his doctor of geography sciences thesis on “Economic and geographical problems of the population of Azerbaijan”.
The essential scientific direction of the chair is development peculiarities and ways of regulation formed problems in the small and medium cities of Azerbaijan in modern times. Researches are carrying out on the problems of population settlement and migration, the origin of lands and their areal, teaching methodology of geography, the geography of service areas, Economic-geographical problems of cities in Azerbaijan, the problems of population settlement.
The chair has established traditional relationships and working together in scientific training and exchange experience with Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University, Kiev State University, Baltic Federal University, Constanta University in Romania, a number of universities and scientific centers of Iran The Islamic Republic and Turkey.
The chair colleagues published 5 monographs, 5 methodical sources, more than 350 scientific articles and thesis from 2015 to 2019.
